The FCMQ affirms its support for Quebec’s agricultural community!
Montreal, September 7th, 2018 – The Fédération des clubs de motoneigistes du Québec (FCMQ), its 200 member clubs, 4,500 volunteers and more than 90,000 individual members wish to affirm their support for Quebec’s agricultural community as negotiations between Canada, the United States and Mexico for the renewal of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) continue.
Essential partners
Private landowners, notably Quebec’s agricultural community, are precious partners of the snowmobile community due to their generosity in providing land-use permissions which constitute a pillar of our 33,000+ km trail network. It is our hope that the government of Canada will prioritize the long-term health of our agricultural industry during negotiations, including the maintenance of the supply management system. Mario Gagnon, president of the FCMQ, notes that "Agricultural landowners are essential partners for the preservation and long-term sustainability of our trail system. Thanks to their generosity, snowmobilers are welcomed on their land, helping to contribute to their local economies and, in so doing, maintaining thousands of jobs in every corner of the province. Agriculture is an economic sector that is essential to Quebeckers and Canadians and it is our hope that the government of Canada will endeavour to not only protect the related jobs, but also our rich agricultural heritage."
